On January 12, a powerful 7.0-magnitude earthquake struck at 4:53
p.m. local time approximately 10 miles southwest of the capital Port-
au-Prince, the strongest quake to hit Haiti in more than 200 years.
As a result, more than 100,000 people are believed dead and some 3
million affected. Also, the damage to infrastructure, including bridges,
buildings, phone and power lines, has been severe. ADRA has committed $1 million worth of aid to support the immediate needs of survivors.
