ABOUT US
Living Stones History
As we envision what God is going to do for us in our future, it is important that we reflect on how He has led in the past.

The Living Stones Seventh-day Adventist Church was organized on September 26, 1924. These 28 founding members originally called their new community the La Crescenta Valley Church, and God has led us ever since.

Here are some interesting facts:

  • Tuition at the church school ranged from $2.50 to 5.50 per month.
  • The first pastor here was R.J. Schaffner.
  • When the first janitor was hired he was paid $5.00 per month to clean the facilities.
  • The first church facility was located at Montrose and Rosemont Avenue in La Crescenta and cost $4, 274.82
  • In 1934 the church was moved due to growth and flood damage to 2844 Montrose Avenue.
  • In the 50’s there were approximately 40 students and 3 teachers, each paid $50.00 per month.
  • Since those days the church helped to plant the current Sunland/Tujunga Community Church, the school has grown to over 130 students, and a preschool has become a wonderful success.
  • All this was done to reach people in the La Crescenta community for Jesus Christ.
After many years of moving, name changes, and trying to discern God’s will in the various ministries of this church, we continue to meet on the land that was purchased in 1958 for $40,000. We meet on the campus that cost only $145,000 to build. God has certainly moved through this church in miraculous ways and will continue to do so as we change and grow to adapt to the will of God in the world.
